EXPERIENCE
Lucas Ashby is a Graphic Designer and Musician based in Washington, DC. From 2011-2014 Lucas worked as the Booking and Promotions manager at two live music venues (Culture Shock and The Gates) in Upstate NY, and was responsible for the creation and distribution of all Promotional Materials, including Flyers, Mailings, Handbills, Event Tickets, Print & Web Ads. He also created all of the Cocktail, Dinner, and Take-Out Menus.
As a freelancer, Ashby has created Posters for Academic and Musical events featuring internationally-renowned musicians, including a Panel Discussion with Nigerian Drummer & "Father of Afrobeat" Tony Allen (Fela Kuti & Africa 70) at Cornell University, and concerts starring nationally-renowned Reggae vocalist Kevin Kinsella (John Brown's Body). Lucas also works as graphic designer for two Ithaca, NY-based clubs (The Dock, The Haunt) that regularly host national acts, working with national promoters (Dan Smalls Presents). As Ethnomusicology Lab Assistant in the Anthropology Department at Ithaca College, Lucas was responsible for creating Educational and Organizational Visual Resources, including Special Event Posters, and Large-Format Curriculum & Service Displays. In 2013 Ashby also produced and directed the first of a series of Video Podcast-Lessons with Ethnomusicologist Dr. Denise Nuttall.
Ashby has also worked extensively crafting the visual presence of Afrobeat-Funk band Big Mean Sound Machine, a project in which he also tours as Percussionist. In addition to individual Show Posters, Ashby has designed and created the EPK (Electronic Press Kit), Stage Plot, Website, Tech Rider, and Performance Contract for the group.
